DETROIT – The player who punched Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown learned his punishment from the NFL on Monday.

Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne was caught on video punching St. Brown near the bottom of his helmet after Detroit’s third touchdown on Sunday evening.

The NFL announced on Monday that Payne has been suspended for one game. The Commanders play the Miami Dolphins next week in Madrid, Spain.

Payne has the right to appeal.

What happened

Jahmyr Gibbs scored early in the second quarter on a 13-yard rush, putting the Lions up 20-3. It was after that play that Payne hit St. Brown, causing his ejection and a personal foul penalty.

The Lions went for two from the 1-yard line and converted, making it 22-3. They ultimately won 44-22.
