LANDOVER, Maryland – The Detroit Lions shook things up during Sunday night’s game against the Washington Commanders as head coach Dan Campbell called plays instead of offensive coordinator John Morton.
The switch came after a disappointing loss to the division rival Minnesota Vikings the week prior.

The Lions haven’t lost back-to-back games since October 2022.
“It was just -- let’s try something a little different,” Dan Campbell remarked of the change, “This is a collaborative effort -- I was taking input from John Morton the whole time, and the other coaches.”
The Lions offense put up a whopping 44 points on the Commanders in a dominant win on Sunday evening.
When asked about Campbell’s playcalling, Jared Goff praised his coach, telling reporters, “I thought he did a great job getting the plays in on time, getting the personnel in, switching up the tempo. He was great.”
Goff completed 25 of 33 passes for 320 yards with 3 touchdown passes during the win.
Jameson Williams spoke on playing after a loss, commenting, “Shout out to Dan and how he controlled the game, but I think we went out there with a chip on our shoulder to execute coming off the loss last week.”
Williams tallied 6 receptions on 7 targets for 119 receiving yards and a touchdown during the win, telling reporters, “I just want to make plays when my number is called.”
Jahmyr Gibbs had high praise for Dan Campbell as well. “He knows what to do at all times, he’s a leader. Overall, he’s just an amazing coach,” Gibbs emphasized.
Dan Campbell plans to continue calling plays for the offense as the Lions prepare to play the reigning Superbowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime matchup on Sunday, November 16 in Philadelphia.
