ALLEN PARK, Mich.Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams shared his thoughts on being named a Pro Bowl alternate.

“I don’t really know. I guess it’s cool to get some recognition,” Williams said. “I feel like I played just as good, if not as good as everybody else, unless she catches and targets. But it is what it is. I’m thankful and grateful for it for sure.”

Looking ahead to the rematch against the Vikings, Williams emphasized execution and playing their style of football.

“Last game we fell behind a little bit and had to play the catch-up game at the end. We just got to play our ball and get back on track after coming off two losses back to back,” he said. “We just got to get back to playing how we play and doing the right thing and playing Detroit line football.”

Williams explained how the Vikings’ blitz affects their offensive approach.

“Nothing really changes. We see these guys a lot. We know what they do. We got to plan the attack the way they play either way,” Williams said. “We’ve been taking it slow these last couple of days, analyzing what we’re going to see and how we’re going to attack certain things. We’ve got a good game plan going into Thursday.”

Williams described how the Vikings’ blitz helps their defense.

“With the blitz, it helps the back end a lot. They don’t have to guard for a long time if the blitz gets there. It goes hand in hand on the defensive side,” he said. “If you blitz, I’m pretty sure the coach is expecting somebody to get back there.”

Locker room atmosphere

On the locker room atmosphere, Williams said there is no disappointment despite the math for making the playoffs.

“Nobody disappointed. Everybody’s head is high. We still got a chance,” Williams said. “Everybody happy, get a chance to go to work and do something we love doing. It’s not all about the bigger picture that everybody else makes it about. Some people play this game because they love the game. It’s not about the money or pleasing fans or anybody.”

Asked about moving on quickly from their most recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Williams said, “We can’t be thinking about what just happened on Sunday. We pass that once the game is over, win or lose. You only get 24 hours to think about it because you have to prepare for your next opponent. Our next opponent is coming way quicker than six or seven days. We got three days to get ready and prepare. So we just focus on what we have in front of us, not what’s behind us.”

Christmas

Williams said playing on Christmas is a bummer because it’s an away game.

“I think it would be better if we had a home game, but we’re away. So I think it sucks that we’re away,” Williams said.

Williams shared a favorite Christmas gift memory.

“Probably a PlayStation. Me and my little brother, my big brother played the game probably all day in the front room,” Williams said. “I was sick on this Christmas. I probably got sick from eating so many candy canes. We played the PlayStation probably like three days straight.”

Williams recalled being a big WWE fan and playing WWE 2007, a mix of SmackDown vs. Raw.

He also mentioned enjoying NBA 2K and Madden games as he grew up.

On his favorite NBA players, Williams said, “I don’t really have a team. I just watch players from St. Louis, Jason Tatum, Bradly Beal. My favorite player is probably Kevin Durant. He’s my favorite player ever.”

First down celebration

On his new first down celebration, Williams joked, “I ain’t even do no first down celebration last game. I just got up, gave the ball to the ref. No more fun. No more. Just get up, get the ball to the ref.”

Regarding officials focusing more on offensive pass interference, Williams said, “Week to week, we get things that the officials bring to certain teams. We go over certain things they’re keeping their eye on. I’m not sure if that was brought up, but it probably has been. It’s all part of the game. We just have to focus on keeping our details together and playing the right game.”

Isaac TeSlaa

When asked about a penalty by young player Isaac TeSlaa, Williams said, “I don’t even look at it as a mistake. It was just a play being made. Stuff happens. No matter what year, people who weren’t rookies made that same mistake before. You can’t blame it on one play. We had like 70 more plays that whole game.”
