A convincing win for the U.S.A., led by several Michiganders.

Waterford native Dylan Larkin scored the first goal of the game, his second goal in two games at the Olympics.

Canton’s Jack Hughes scored two goals in the second period, and Zach Werenski of Grosse Pointe Woods finished with three assists in Friday’s win.

“I feel like we’ve gotten better as the tournament has gone on,” Werenski said after the win. “I like where our game is at right now. We know Sunday is going to be tough for us, but I definitely think we’re in a good spot with our game.”

It’s been 44 years since Team USA won gold in men’s hockey.

The “Miracle on Ice” team in 1980 is the last American team to win it all at the Olympics.

“It feels like this is how it’s supposed to go,” Larkin said. “We’re going to have a 60-minute hockey game, and the winner is going to win a gold medal. That’s pretty special.”

Team USA and Team Canada will meet in the gold medal game on Sunday at 8:10 a.m. on Local 4.
