David Montgomery’s teammates are reacting to reports that the Lions are trading the running back to Houston.

Reports surfaced this weekend that Montgomery wanted out of Detroit, where he set a new career-low in carries while working behind Jahmyr Gibbs last season.

On Monday, Montgomery was sent to the Houston Texas in exchange for a fourth-round pick, a seventh-round pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, according to several NFL insiders.

Scruggs was a second-round pick out of Penn State in 2023 and has appeared in 37 games the past three seasons. He played in all 17 games for the Texans last season, but started only once.

Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs -- part of the Sonic and Knuckles duo -- posted to his Instagram story, a sad visual of the characters walking away from each other.

Amon-Ra St. Brown posted a broken heart with the news on his social media pages.

Montgomery’s carries have decreased in each of his three seasons with the Lions, from 219 in 2023 to 185 in 2024 and then down to 158 in 2025.
