On Monday, Montgomery was sent to the Houston Texas in exchange for a fourth-round pick, a seventh-round pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, according to several NFL insiders.
Scruggs was a second-round pick out of Penn State in 2023 and has appeared in 37 games the past three seasons. He played in all 17 games for the Texans last season, but started only once.
Montgomery’s carries have decreased in each of his three seasons with the Lions, from 219 in 2023 to 185 in 2024 and then down to 158 in 2025.
In his first season with the Lions, Montgomery gained over 1,000 rushing yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He ran for 775 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2024.
He scored just eight touchdowns last season.
