WDIV wins big in Nielsen ratings for July

Local 4 dominates competition

DETROIT – WDIV-Local 4 continues to dominate the ratings with first place finishes in key newscasts, afternoon programming, access (7-8 p.m.), primetime and late night programming in the July Nielsen ratings for Detroit (6/29/17 – 7/26/17).

WDIV Local 4’s first place newscast finishes include:

Local 4 News First at 4 p.m. is No. 1 in the time period with a 3.0 household rating/9 household share beating both The Now Detroit (WXYZ 4 p.m.) (2.1 HH RTG/6 HH SHR) and Judge Judy (WJBK 4 p.m.) (2.6 HH RTG/8 HH SHR).  WDIV’s 4 p.m. newscast also wins across the board in key demographics.

Local 4 News at 5 p.m. continues its eight-year winning streak and is No. 1 in the time period with a 4.7 household rating/12 share, beating both WXYZ (4.0 HH RTG/10 HH SHR) and WJBK (3.4 HH RTG/9 HH SHR). Furthermore, Local 4’s 5 p.m. newscast wins in all key demographics. WJBK continues to trend downward with declines in the key Adult 25-54 demographic (down 17%) and in the key Women 25-54 demographic (down 33%) versus July 2016.

Local 4 News at 6 p.m. is No.1 in household ratings, garnering a 6.5 rating/15 share compared to WXYZ (5.6 HH RTG/13 HH SHR) and WJBK (3.0 HH RTG/7 HH SHR). Local 4 News at 6 p.m., Detroit’s undisputed No. 1 newscast, also showed double-digit ratings increases over last July and is No. 1 across all key demographics.  WJBK showed ratings declines of 20% in the key Adults 25-54 demographic.

Local 4 News at 11 p.m. is Detroit’s No. 1 Late News and beat WJBK’s 10 p.m. News with a 5.8 HH RTG/12 HH  SHR as compared to WXYZ (4.8 HH RTG/10 HH SHR) and WJBK M-F 11 p.m. (3.9 HH RTG/8 HH SHR). 

In other day parts, WDIV’s Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are No. 1 in the all-important access time period of 7-8 p.m., averaging a  6.2 HH RTG/13 SHR.

The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon remains Detroit’s Late Night programming leader.

NBC Prime is No. 1 in July (3.5 HH RTG/7 SHR). NBC’s hit shows like America’s Got Talent, World of Dance, Dateline and American Ninja Warrior, just to name a few, drove this No. 1 rank.

In addition to the July Sweeps wins, WDIV’s website, ClickOnDetroit.com, is metro Detroit’s No. 1 TV news website (comScore June 2017), beating all other local newspaper and TV station websites.
