Tom Brady jokes about controversial ‘Tuck Rule’ game: ‘It might have been a fumble’

Tom Brady has commented on one of the most controversial plays in the NFL history. “The tuck rule game against the Raiders,” Brady said. pic.twitter.com/xPtrg1kXjr — Tom Brady (@TomBrady) May 5, 2022Also known as the “Tuck Rule Game,” the showdown played amid a blizzard at Foxboro Stadium ended when Adam Vinatieri kicked a 23-yard field in overtime. The officials initially called the play a recovered fumble, which would have sealed the victory for the Raiders. Vinatieri later died the game on a 45-yard field goal to send the game to OT, which he eventually won for New England.

Record-breaking kicker Adam Vinatieri plans to retire

NFL career scoring leader Adam Vinatieri is planning to retire.

Colts QB Rivers, 39, retires from NFL after 17 seasons

“Every year, Jan. 20 is a special and emotional day,” Rivers said in a statement posted on the team’s website. “It is St. Sebastian’s Feast day, the day I played in the AFC championship without an ACL, and now the day that after 17 seasons, I’m announcing my retirement from the National Football League. I am grateful to the Chargers for 16 seasons, and the Colts for the 17th season.”Rivers was one of a kind. In the 2006 season opener, Rivers made his starting debut — and then the next 251 in a row including the playoffs. “My son never did throw a big ball like I did at that age and he throws it the exact same way,” Rivers said.

Freeman is still unsigned as Week 1 of the NFL season begins. Several familiar names and players on roster bubbles took turns on the unemployment line with some finding new jobs. Adrian Peterson was cut last week by Washington, but quickly landed in Detroit. Here's a look at notable available players at each position:QUARTERBACKSBlake Bortles, Cody Kessler, DeShone Kizer, Trevor Siemian, Drew Stanton. WIDE RECEIVERSAntonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Mohamed Sanu, Hakeem Butler, Quincy Enunwa, Chester Rogers, Demaryius Thomas, Jermaine Kearse, Ryan Grant, Jordan Matthews, Laquon Treadwell.

Vinatieri misses late, Steelers edge Colts 26-24

"It's good to be sitting at 4-4," Tomlin said after the Steelers held on to beat the Indianapolis Colts 26-24 on Sunday. "We know he's a great kicker," Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward said. The Steelers had blocked an extra point attempt by Vinatieri in the third quarter. "It was great to beat that team," Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree said. FITZPATRICK STRIKES AGAINThe Steelers paid a hefty price in September when they traded a 2020 first-round pick to Miami for Fitzpatrick.
