Former Tiger hits an inside-the-park home run for Atlanta
As much as fans enjoy the long ball, a home run when the ball stays within the field of play is arguably the most exciting play in baseball. On Friday last week, Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Travis Demeritte hit an inside-the-park home run for the Atlanta Braves in the third inning of a 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers. Demeritte hit the home run with the bases empty, giving Atlanta a 3-1 lead after his speedy trip around the bases. Demeritte recorded the hit on a 2-2 pitch from Spencer Howard, lining the ball to center field. Demeritte was claimed off waivers in February 2021 and is playing in his first big league games Atlanta this season.

Mike Trout left the Los Angeles Angels’ 8-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday after being hit in his left hand by a pitch, but the team said X-rays were negative and the three-time AL MVP is day to day. Trout was struck by a 1-1 slider from Rangers right-hander Spencer Patton leading off the fifth inning. “Like a normal day, I probably just turn like this (turning his left shoulder in) and just get hit,” Trout said.
news.yahoo.comMLB Rookie of the Year winners announced; no Tigers receive votes
At one point earlier this summer, it looked like Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo might push for the Rookie of the Year Award. Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia and Indians reliever Emmanuel Clase also received first-place votes. In the National League, Reds second baseman Jonathan India received 29 of 30 first-place votes to beat out Miami Marlins left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers and St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson. Other notable Reds who won the award include Johnny Bench (1968), Pete Rose (1963) and Frank Robinson (1956). He’s the first second baseman to win the award since Steve Sax did so in 1982.
mlive.comTigers’ Akil Baddoo shouldn’t just be in Rookie of the Year race. He should be one of its leaders.
DETROIT -- When will Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo start to generate some more buzz in the American League Rookie of the Year race? Not only is there no reason why Akil Baddoo shouldn’t be in the ROY race, there’s a case for him to be near the top of it. Part of the reason is that many people were ready to declare Baddoo a flash in the pan. The final reason Baddoo is only now entering the conversation is because he was, until recently, not a true everyday player. There are still two months left in the season, plenty of time for this race to play out.
