With Dak down, Cooper Rush passes Cowboys past Vikings 20-16
Cooper Rush subbed for the injured Dak Prescott and passed for 325 yards and two second-half touchdowns, the last a 5-yarder to Amari Cooper with 51 seconds left in the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
Cooper doesn't hide what he's thinking with Cowboys rolling
Amari Cooper rejected the suggestion that Dallas' 44-20 win over New York was even more impressive because of a sloppy start that kept the last-place Giants in the game longer than they should have been. The receiver's reaction illustrates where the Cowboys think they can go after four consecutive victories coming off a last-second loss to Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay in the opener. “We don't need to have those mistakes,” said Cooper, who had a 24-yard touchdown catch.news.yahoo.com
Lower cap leads to more cuts than usual in NFL
(AP Photo/Tyler Kaufman, File)If it seemed as if NFL teams have been shedding contracts nearly as fast as signing them in recent weeks that’s because it’s almost true. “I think the unprecedented part being, for the first time in modern era, the cap decreases instead of increases,” Rams general manager Les Snead said. Adoree Jackson got a three-year deal worth a reported $39 million from the Giants after Tennessee refused to pay his $10.24 million fifth-year option. In one of the more curious cases, Miami cut Kyle Van Noy one year into his four-year, $51 million deal, leaving about $36 million unpaid. Van Noy then returned to New England on a two-year, $12 million deal and the Patriots will also get a fourth-round compensation pick in next month’s draft based on the deal Van Noy signed last March.

(AP Photo/Michael Ainsworth, File)The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have finally agreed on the richest contract in club history, two years after negotiations first started with the star quarterback. At $40 million per season, Prescott is second in the NFL in annual salary to Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes, who is at $45 million annually in a $450 million, 10-year deal that could eventually exceed $500 million in value. With a new contract, the Cowboys will get salary cap relief they're expected to need with the cap falling from $198 million to possibly as low as $180 million. Even before Prescott’s injury, the Cowboys started slowly in coach Mike McCarthy’s first season last year.
Giants outlast Cowboys, lose division hours later to WSH
New York’s postseason chances hinged on Philadelphia beating Washington later Sunday, but the Eagles flopped in a 20-14 loss. Hardly how first-year coach Joe Judge planned it, but there were no complaints about extending the season for at least a few more hours. Limited to 26 points over its previous three games, the Giants’ 31st-ranked offense busted out with 239 yards and 20 points in the first half. Giants: Williams had seven tackles, three sacks and hit the quarterback five times. Giants: LB Blake Martinez left the game briefly after appearing to injure his left ankle or foot in the third quarter.

Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts are the real stars of the leagues most potent offenses. Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts are the real stars of the league’s most potent offenses. “He’s great at the point of attack.”Added Smith: “Pitts, he just makes unbelievable plays.”Pitts was in the middle of a cautious and costly decision last week. Cowboys' Prescott acknowledges mental struggles of offseason
Prescott acknowledged the cause of Jace Prescott's death for the first time in a recent TV interview set to air this weekend. Dak Prescott, the youngest, said he knew Jace Prescott bore the greatest burden as their mom's primary caregiver while she battled cancer. Jace Prescott died at 31 in the southeast Texas city of Orange in April. Prescott said those leadership tendencies are enhanced when someone is able to acknowledge their own difficulties with mental health. “I mean, obviously tears and tears and tears,” Dak Prescott said.
Cowboys' Prescott has eye on present without long-term deal
Dak Prescott stuck with his virtual hiatus trying to get a long-term contract that never came during the offseason. Im not a guy that looks at my future to be honest, Prescott said Wednesday, two days before the first practice of training camp for the Cowboys. He was an almost instant star with the Cowboys, winning 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as a fourth-round pick who replaced injured 10-year starter Tony Romo during his first preseason. The Cowboys made the hotel available to their players, and Prescott estimated 90% of them had essentially agreed to create their own bubble. The Cowboys cleared their COVID-19 reserve list early this week by activating WR Jon'Vea Johnson and CB Saivion Smith.
With Garrett in limbo, Cowboys facing roster choices as well

(AP Photo/Ron Jenkins)FRISCO, TX – With the future of coach Jason Garrett in limbo, the Dallas Cowboys have other reasons to believe there will be plenty of change in 2020 — 23 of them, to be exact. There was no word by late afternoon Monday from owner Jerry Jones on whether Garrett would return for a 10th full season. “In reflection, I'm very fortunate to have spent the time that I did with coach Garrett,” seven-year center Travis Frederick said Monday in a locker room dotted with large plastic bags holding players' belongings. Quinn led the team with 11 1/2 sacks in his first Dallas season following a trade with Miami.
Jerry Jones tries everything, but Cowboys can't get it right

(AP Photo/Morry Gash)Jerry Jones tried ripping the coaching staff of the Dallas Cowboys after the first loss in the current three-game skid, then took the gentle approach following the second. "Until we can win a football game, I don’t care what kind of contention we’re in," Jones said. The Cowboys (6—7) have never made the playoffs in a season with two losing streaks of at least three games. Despite seven losses in 10 games, Dallas will be no worse than tied with Philadelphia for the NFC East lead with three games remaining.
