SAGINAW, MI — Saginaw Riverside Film Festival organizers appear to be making up for taking off 2020 because of the pandemic. The Saginaw-based event will host a second series of movies Friday to Sunday, Nov. 12-14, after screening an earlier slate of films in October. Films include two documentaries — one about celebrated journalist Anthony Bourdain and the other about the daring Thailand cave rescue that made headlines worldwide in 2018 — as well as four dramas that earned acclaim at earlier film festivals across the world. Bourdain, the host of the award-winning CNN series "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown," died by suicide in 2018 while filming in France. Known for his showcasing of global cuisines through shows like "Parts Unknown" and "No Reservations," along with his writing ability in books like "Kitchen Confidential," Bourdain's death shook many.

Heading into the Primetime Emmy Awards next Sunday, HBO leads networks and streaming services with 25 wins, followed closely by Netflix with 23. The show is also nominated for best comedy series, and lead actress and writing for Natasha Lyonne and co-creators Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler. In reality TV categories, RuPaul won his fourth consecutive Emmy as reality host on VH1's "RuPaul's Drag Race." While Creative Arts Emmys don't guarantee Primetime Emmy wins, the event is a good indicator of voter sentiment within the Television Academy.
