ROYAL OAK, MI - Michigan was home to the oldest living giant anteater at a zoo accredited by the Associated of Zoos and Aquariums. 26-year old Chelsey had been living at the Detroit Zoo since 1997 and lived longer than most anteaters. According to National Geographic, a giant anteater’s lifespan in the wild is 14 years. Giant anteaters have no teeth, but they have very large and long noses and tongues. The tongue of a giant anteater can be up to two feet long.
