Monday (Dec. 21), Jupiter and Saturn appeared closer in the night sky than they had in about 800 years during what's known as a "great conjunction." On Dec. 21, 2020, Jupiter and Saturn appeared just one-tenth of a degree apart, or about the thickness of a dime held at arm's length, according to NASA. During the event, known as a "great conjunction," the two planets (and their moons) were visible in the same field of view through binoculars or a telescope. While Jupiter and Saturn have a close conjunction once every 20 years, the planets haven't appeared this close since 1623.

The Census Bureau sought the help of college administrators in getting rosters for off-campus students who left town, but only half of the schools cooperated. From Tempe to places like Bloomington, Indiana, and Gainesville, Florida, the looming undercount could harm college towns across the country. The Census Bureau says college students should be counted where they would have been on April 1 at school if not for the outbreak. College students overwhelm the demography of places with large universities, Poston said.

As the world awaits the return of hoops on the court, the National Basketball Association announced a pair of transactions that is certain to change the landscape of its G League. Top high school prospects Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd agreed to terms to play in the G League, the league said. But Green is expected to net over $1 million when factoring in possible endorsement deals he's eligible to sign. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, the president of the G League, told CNBC the new team would help monitor elite talent domestically, as the trend of seniors leaving high school and playing overseas continues to rise. "If you talk to a lot of the top high school seniors, all of them had options to go somewhere abroad," Abdur-Rahim said.
