Wisconsin couple attacked by bear that broke into their home

MEDFORD, WI -- A Wisconsin couple is recovering from injuries they suffered after a bear crashed through the window of their home and attacked them Friday evening. Instead of leaving, the bear turned toward the home and charged at the house, crashing through the window. Once inside the home, the bear attacked the couple, who began fighting with it and stabbing the animal with a kitchen knife. The husband and wife were each bitten by the bear and suffered injuries in the attack, however they were treated at a nearby hospital and released. Authorities say it is believed the adult female bear was in the yard with one of her cubs before it charged the house.

Historic Sleeping Bear Inn to reopen as B&B, public open house scheduled for April

GLEN HAVEN, MICH. -- A 150-year-old frontier inn on Lake Michigan is to be rehabilitated and opened as a bed-and-breakfast lodge within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. National Park Service officials today announced that a 40-year lease has been issued to the non-profit organization Balancing Environment and Rehabilitation, known as BEAR, for the historic Sleeping Bear Inn and Garage in Glen Haven. A public open house of the buildings will take place on Friday, April 8, at 1:00 p.m., following a short ceremony. The open house will provide the public the opportunity to see the buildings before their rehabilitation. Traverse City residents urged to yank birdfeeders after bear causes damage

The bear was spotted on Ninth and 10th streets in the city, Traverse City Police said in a Facebook post that includes a video of the bear meandering around a neighborhood. Bird feeders and garbage were the bear’s main focus, and it did cause some damage. While officers were able to track him down, he was “bearly” too big to put in a cruiser, police said.
