The death of another U.S. Capitol Police officer has exacerbated problems for a department months after the worst moment in its history — the storming of the Capitol by violent insurrectionists — and placed new urgency on lawmakers considering proposals to bolster the agency.

It was the second line-of-duty death this year for the U.S. Capitol Police after the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection.

Elizabeth Holmes will officially go to trial next summer. Holmes fell hard when her company was shuttered last year and federal authorities accused her of "massive fraud." Two months later, Holmes was charged with multiple counts of fraud for misleading investors, government officials and consumers about Theranos' technology.
