EVANSTON, Ill. – A few short weeks ago, Tom Izzo was entertaining questions about this Michigan State team being one of the best defensive squads of his tenure. Izzo said he thought his team’s defensive issues were a result of effort and slowed down the Spartans’ fast break. In a season where it’s particularly difficult to judge teams, with fewer games than normal and key players often missing, Michigan State may have been anointed a defensive stalwart a bit early. Now, it will be clear where Michigan State needs to improve. “We didn’t look at all like a Michigan State basketball team,” Izzo said.
