From the season-altering (Dak Prescott, Barkley) to the bizarre (Tyrod Taylor, Trent Brown), injuries are playing their traditionally significant role in the NFL. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast, File)ARLINGTON, Texas – From the season-altering to the bizarre, injuries are playing their traditionally significant role in the NFL. Brown also recently went back on the COVID-19 list, a newcomer among potential ailments with the NFL playing during a pandemic. Few teams have had the volume of injuries that have hit defending NFC champion San Francisco. New Orleans' star receiver, Michael Thomas, has had a tumultuous season in part because of ankle and hamstring injuries.
Murray runs for TD, throws another, Cardinals rip 0-5 Jets
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) runs in a touchdown against New York Jets free safety Marcus Maye (20) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, in East Rutherford. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Arizona Cardinals certainly came to the right place to get back on the winning track. Having Kyler Murray and the offense put up nearly 500 yards against the hapless and winless Jets was almost predictable. “I don’t want anyone on the team to feel satisfied with what happened today," said Murray, who threw for 380 yards. Jets: play at Miami next Sunday as NFL reorganizes schedule due to coronavirus pandemic.
The Latest: Tough day for last year's Super Bowl teams
This hasn’t been a good day for last season’s two Super Bowl participants. The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season earlier Sunday when they fell 40-32 at home to the Las Vegas Raiders. This is the first time in the Super Bowl era that the two teams that played in the Super Bowl the previous season have allowed at least 40 points at home on the same day. The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers both entered Sunday undefeated. Atlanta cornerback Kendall Sheffield suffered a right ankle injury in the second quarter and was listed as questionable to return.
Murray runs for 2 TDs, Cardinals roll past Washington 30-15
Washington (1-1) finally scored a touchdown with 12:20 left in the fourth quarter when Dwayne Haskins hit Terry McLaurin for a 24-yard score. The Cardinals' revamped defense had a big day, holding Washington scoreless until Dustin Hopkins hit a 24-yard field goal late in the third quarter. Murray's pass into coverage was picked off by Landon Collins, giving Washington great field position at the Arizona 19. He was completely alone in the back of the end zone on third down and Murray hit him for the 4-yard score to make it 7-0. ... Washington right guard Brandon Scherff (knee) was hurt just before halftime and gingerly walked off the field with the help of medical staff.
Devon Kennard Ready To Help Cardinals
Chandler Jones was one of the NFLs elite defensive players last season even if the rest of the Arizona Cardinals defense usually struggled. Devon Kennard watched from afar as Jones tore through the league with 19 sacks last season and eight forced fumbles, causing havoc multiple times each game. The Cardinals signed the 28-year-old Kennard to a three-year deal last week in a defensive overhaul that also includes defensive lineman Jordan Phillips and linebacker DeVondre Campbell. Ive had the chance to meet him a couple times, Kennard said. The 30-year-old Banjo played in 13 games last season for Arizona and was a valuable contributor on special teams.detroit.cbslocal.com
Lions Achieve: Lions Blow 18 Point Lead, Tie Cardinals 27-27
To everyones disbelief, all that drama was about to end in a 27-27 tie with the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Arizonas new-look offense under first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury was a dud for most of the afternoon before inexplicably coming alive in the fourth quarter. Murray hit David Johnson for a 27-yard touchdown to pull the Cardinals within 24-16 with less than six minutes remaining. Matthew Stafford threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns for the Lions, but they couldnt put together drives in the fourth quarter to stop Arizonas momentum. Weve got to do a better job of finishing the game out.NICE GAME, ROOKIEDetroits T.J. Hockenson made an immediate impact.detroit.cbslocal.com
