Eleanor Holmes Norton has been an outspoken advocate for the District of Columbia during her 18 terms as the city's delegate in Congress.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District of Columbia Council are scrambling to address a financial crisis created when the Republican-controlled House of Representatives recessed without voting to fix a hole in the city budget.

On Tuesday, the national voting rights organization called Black Voters Matter brought their message and caravan to southeast Michigan, including in Ypsilanti, Detroit, and Highland Park, to encourage people to turn out on Nov. 8.
