Veteran Tigers starter signs with Blue Jays
Right-handed pitcher Drew Hutchison, who spent parts of the last two seasons with the Detroit Tigers, has signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 32-year-old native of Lakeland, Fla., had the second-most innings of any Tigers’ pitcher in 2022 (105 1/3). Hutchison hadn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2018 when he signed with the Tigers prior to the 2021 season. Brantly, 33, was drafted by the Tigers in the third round out of UC Riverside in 2010. Brantly has played in parts of eight seasons for five big-league teams.
mlive.comWho will Tigers keep? Final major deadline for roster decisions is Friday.
The final important deadline on the early postseason calendar is Friday, when teams must decide whether to tender contracts to players not already under contract for 2023. The Tigers began the offseason with 12 arbitration-eligible players and have already parted ways with three of them. “Those decisions are really tough, especially for me because I don’t know these players as well as most presidents know their players,” Harris said earlier this month at the GM Meetings in Las Vegas. There are other factors that must be weighed by Harris: The Tigers like Cisnero, but he’ll turn 34 in April. mlive.comTigers winter roster decisions: Who’s back? Who’s on the bubble? Who’s out?
Drew Hutchison’s exit from the Detroit Tigers’ roster happened so fast that we didn’t even have a chance to include him on the “really vulnerable” list for this offseason. That’s the first thing to remember as you peruse the list below: Many of the most vulnerable players actually had pretty decent years. But baseball is a business, and a variety of factors beyond the playing field can impact a player’s roster status. So any player who survives the initial roster pruning could still be vulnerable later in the winter, even going into next spring. If the Tigers decide to add a veteran catcher this winter -- or even if they don’t -- Sanchez could be vulnerable.

The Tigers arbitration-eligible players are listed below, with their service time in parenthesis. Everybody else -- Cisnero, Reyes, Castro and Castro -- is probably on the bubble.
