EMU picks private firm to finance $200 million student housing enhancements
YPSILANTI, MI - After more than three years of consideration, Eastern Michigan University is moving forward with plans to enhance student housing with a $200 million investment from a private firm. The EMU Board of Regents picked Gilbane Development Company of Providence, Rhode Island to finance its “Welcome Home 2025″ campus housing initiative during the Thursday regents meeting. The timeline towards completion, as the name suggests, is within the next three years, according to an EMU release.

This move extends the winter break between semesters, which begins on Dec. 24. There will be no winter break in 2021; the University will hold classes that week. EMU has already taken measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on campus, including delaying student move-in to dorms and increasing the number of online classes this fall.
