Detroit Lions free agency preview: Could ex-Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner be a fit?
This is the fifth of a seven-part series previewing the Detroit Lions’ positional needs heading into free agency. The Lions haven’t had a real playmaker at the second level since, what, DeAndre Levy right? And no one has come within 19 tackles or 18 solo tackles of the 151/117 line that Levy put up in his standout 2014 season. Because even as he nears his 32nd birthday, Wagner is a fit for just about anyone. He also picked off three passes, one of which clinched a win against Detroit in Week 16, and sacked two quarterbacks.mlive.com
Bills clinch playoff berth, eliminate Falcons with 29-15 win
Devin Singletary scored two touchdowns rushing in the second half to make up for Josh Allen’s sloppiness and the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills rallied to clinch their third consecutive playoff berth with a 29-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
What’s being said nationally after Detroit Lions lose another heartbreaker in final minutes
The Detroit Lions (2-12-1) brought another game into the final minutes, with quarterback Tim Boyle throwing a late interception in their 20-16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons (7-8) in Week 16. Boyle started in place of quarterback Jared Goff, who could not clear COVID protocols after testing positive to start the week. Boyle and the Lions had their fair share of chances to take control of this one, or at least give themselves a better chance. When the Falcons took a 20-13 lead early in the fourth quarter, the Lions went down the field on a 17-play drive lasting 10 minutes, 26 seconds. Detroit took over at Atlanta’s 37-yard line, trailing 20-16 with a little more than two minutes on the clock.mlive.com
Chiefs clinch No. 1 seed when Falcons' Koo misses late FG
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is tackled by Atlanta Falcons Foyesade Oluokun during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, in Kansas City. The Chiefs had to watch as Pro Bowl kicker Younghoe Koo missed a tying field-goal attempt with 9 seconds left to escape. The Falcons (4-11) took the lead when Matt Ryan hit Laquon Treadwell for a 5-yard touchdown with 4:33 to go. Kansas City finally took its first lead on Harrison Butker's 53-yard field goal with 14:08 left in the game. Another Falcons collapse: Foles' 3 TDs lead 30-26 Bears win
The Falcons surrendered a 16-point advantage in the final 6 1/2 minutes to the Chicago Bears, who got three touchdown passes from backup quarterback Nick Foles and pulled out a 30-26 win on Sunday. It would have seemed downright improbable — if it hadn't happened for the second week in a row. The former Super Bowl MVP won it with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller with 1:53 remaining. He tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Graham to make it 26-16 with 6:20 to go. But Foles got his chance after Trubisky threw an interception in the third quarter that led to a Falcons field goal, pushing the lead to 26-10.

Gurley celebrates 26th birthday as Falcons' new lead back
Monday was his first day on the Atlanta Falcons' practice fields, and he was upbeat about adjusting to new teammates, new coaches and his new playbook for the start of training camp. First of all, none of yall told me happy birthday yet, so Im kind of upset with you, Gurley said. Gurley was the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year, and his 58 rushing touchdowns since his 2015 debut lead the league. The Falcons are counting on Gurley to join quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones as the leaders of the offense. I feel like theyve been doing a pretty good job with that and today it started good, Gurley said.
