SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI – A Michigan woman died after she was ejected from her snowmobile in the Upper Peninsula. Troopers from Michigan State Police posts in Manistique and Gladstone responded to the crash, which occurred on Trail 413 near Camp 7 Road in Schoolcraft County at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday. Manistique Public Safety, Inwood Fire and Rescue, Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office and Guardian Flight also responded to the scene. This crash follows another snowmobile crash in Schoolcraft County earlier in the day where a male subject was traveling too fast for trail conditions and suffered a broken leg, police said. “The Michigan State Police encourages safe and prudent use of snowmobiles,” a statement reads.

Corunna 43, Clio 0Bryce Edington caught two touchdown passes from Wyatt Bower, who also threw TD passes to Tarick Bower and Dylan Blaha.

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man is dead after a rollover crash in the Upper Peninsula’s Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. WLUC-TV reports 31-year-old Jessie Lavigne, of Gladstone, was traveling north on the 107th Engineers Memorial Highway near the Lake of the Clouds when he lost control of his 2006 Ford van while navigating a curve. He was unresponsive when troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post arrived after 9 a.m. on May 15, according to the TV station. He was transported to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital by ambulance but was later transported to UP Health System Marquette by Med-Flight where he was pronounced dead. The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office, Carp Lake Township first responders, Beacon Ambulance and Dishaw Towing assisted at the scene.

Asmus said when the pipe failed a black liquor was released to the wastewater treatment plant. Black liquor is a high-strength organic pollutant derived from the breakdown of pulpwood. The black liquor overwhelmed the facilitys wastewater treatment system causing effluent (outflow) violations, Asmus said. The wastewater system remained functional however, it was not capable of treating the black liquor entirely. Black liquor is a byproduct of a process at the mill, not a chemical purchased and stored on site for a specific purpose, Asmus said.
More than 460K walleye fingerlings stocked in Michigan bay
LANSING, Mich. - More than 460,000 walleye fingerlings have been stocked in a bay in Michigans Upper Peninsula. The Michigan Department of Natural resources says nearly 330,000 fingerlings were placed in early July in northern Little Bay de Noc near the mouth of the Whitefish River. Another 135,000 were stocked near Gladstone, Kipling and the lower Escanaba River. Eggs taken earlier this year from adult walleye in the bay were transferred to fish hatcheries. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fishermen.
