It is the first time a Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame class included more women than men. Adderley, who died in 2020 at age 81, played football at Michigan State from 1958-60 under coach Duffy Daugherty. DeBoer was a standout basketball and volleyball player at Michigan State from 1975-78 and played two seasons in the Women’s Pro Basketball League. Garety was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain of the Michigan State women’s golf team from 1974-78. Green in 2019 became the 10th Michigan State player to have their number retired.

Herb Adderley, former Spartan and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, dies at 81
Herb Adderley, a former Michigan State running back and a Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback, died on Friday. “The entire Pro Football Hall of Fame family mourns the passing of Herb Adderley,” Pro Football Hall of Fame president and CEO David Baker said in a released statement. When Adderley joined the Packers, he was behind future Hall of Fame running backs Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung. Adderley was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 1980 class and is one of only three former Spartans selected to the prestigious group. Adderley played on six NFL title teams over a 12-year career with Green Bay and Dallas. “Herb Adderley was yet another dominant figure for us on the Packers,” former Packers teammate Bill Curry tweeted. In 2007, Adderley and two other retired players filed a class-action lawsuit against the NFL Players Association, alleging nonpayment of licensing fees.
