Eagles pass on Michigan’s Jesse Minter in pursuit of new defensive coordinator
INDIANAPOLIS — Jim Harbaugh and Michigan appear to have dodged a bullet on Tuesday, with the Philadelphia Eagles zeroing in on a new defensive coordinator. Several reports say Seattle Seahawks associate head coach and defensive assistant Sean Desai is heading to Philadelphia, where he’ll fill the Eagles’ coordinator role left vacant by Jonathan Gannon. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed Desai’s departure to Seattle reporters on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, where Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni are scheduled to speak later today. But the news ends in a week-long watch after Minter, 39, interviewed for the job and was considered a candidate. The Wolverines’ previous coordinator, Mike Macdonald, departed for the NFL following a successful 2021 season — becoming the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, coached by Jim Harbaugh’s brother, John.

(AP Photo/Derik Hamilton)PHILADELPHIA – Carson Wentz needs time away to think about his future with the Philadelphia Eagles and there's hope his relationship with the team won’t end in a divorce, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Wentz also hasn’t discussed his future with team officials yet, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because it’s a private matter. Carson Wentz doesn’t want to be a backup quarterback,” said Zach Ertz, one of Wentz’s closest friends on the team. The Eagles would absorb a significant cap hit of $33.8 million in dead money on the 2021 cap if they trade Wentz before March 19. Wentz started every game in 2019 and helped the Eagles win the NFC East with an excellent four-game stretch in December.
