After vandalism reports involving graffiti at a few mosques in Texas and California, Muslim leaders there have stepped up existing efforts to keep their sacred spaces and community members safe.

The Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations is calling on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for the vandalism of the entrance sign and periphery lighting of an Islamic center on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
