The Florida Panthers have signed restricted free agent forward Sam Bennett to a $17.7 million, four-year contract.

Defenseman Marc Staal is staying put in Detroit, while the Vancouver Canucks have placed Jake Virtanen on waivers for the purpose of buying out the final year of the under-performing forward’s contract.
