Harvick, Hamlin still predictable Cup favorites at hot Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin can easily be considered favorites for the first summertime race at Texas, even in this unpredictable and unprecedented NASCAR Cup season. There are no rules changes from last year for the aerodynamic or engine packages used at Texas, where Hamlin won in the spring before Harvick won his third consecutive fall race there. We will take into account weather and all that stuff to figure out what kind of car we need to take to that race track to be successful, said Hamlin, who won both Texas races in 2010. Harvick, who has an 88-point lead over Brad Keselowski this season, paced a 1-2-3 finish for Stewart-Haas Racing at Texas last November. When Harvick takes the green flag Sunday, he will become the 18th driver to make his 700th career Cup Series start.
Earnhardt returns; Burton wins Xfinity race at Homestead
Burton, Gragson and Austin Cindric were three-wide going into that last lap, and it was Burton the 19-year-old son of former Cup star Jeff Burton, who wound up in front in a wild finish. I love you.Cindric was second and Gragson third, two spots ahead of Earnhardt part of his cars JR Motorsports ownership. It was Earnhardts third Xfinity Series appearance since retiring as a full-time Cup Series driver in 2017. Hed also raced there five times in the Xfinity Series, placing second in 1999 for his best finish. The Xfinity cars are back on the track Sunday before the Cup Series race at Homestead.
Earnhardt Jr., Edwards And Burton Among New Nominees For Hall Of Fame
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Burton, and Carl Edwards were among the new nominees for NASCARs next Hall of Fame class announced Tuesday under a revamped voting protocol. The new process starting this year splits the nominees into three ballots; Modern candidates, Pioneer candidates and Landmark candidates. Burton, Earnhardt, Edwards, Jake Elder, and Banjo Matthews are all first-time nominees for the Hall of Fame. Edwards won 28 Cup races and twice failed to win the Cup title in the season finale. Series officials realistically are targeting the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24 for the return of racing, but NASCAR had no announcement on when Hall of Fame voting will be conducted.detroit.cbslocal.com
