Family of 3 displaced by house fire in Jackson
JACKSON, MI -- Fire, smoke and water caused “extensive” damage to a small Jackson home Thursday afternoon, officials said. Crews from the Jackson Fire Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Hollywood Street at 3:44 p.m. March 9 for a report of smoke coming from a residential building. Though no flames were showing from the outside, a passerby or neighbor saw smoke leaking out of the windows and eaves of the house, said Cpt. The blaze was contained to a couple of rooms in the middle of the small house, though there was “extensive” smoke and water damage done to the interior of the building. Jackson Fire was assisted at the scene by the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety, Summit Township Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance.

After investigating the area for a short time, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the interior of an abandoned building, Smith said. The fire was largely contained to the interior of the pole barn-like structure, Smith said, adding that no one was injured in this incident. Jackson Fire crews were assisted by the Summit Township Fire Department and the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety.

Jackson Fire crews were assisted by the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety, the Summit Township Fire Department and Consumer’s Energy.

The residential building had two units upstairs and two units on the first floor, housing a total of 11 tenants, he added. A tenant initially saw smoke coming from the first floor prior to smoke alarms going off and called Jackson police, said Smith.
