New Lions LB Chris Board buying into culture being built in Detroit: It just feels real here
ALLEN PARK -- New Detroit Lions linebacker Chris Board enjoyed a career year with the Baltimore Ravens while developing into a solid contributor with an ever-growing role last season. So, why is the special teams standout and 26-year-old leaving John Harbaugh and the Ravens for the rebuilding Lions? He’s done this while playing at least 300 snaps on special teams in three of his four years in the league. “He’s becoming a really good inside linebacker,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said of Board at one point. Ravens’ growing Michigan pipeline an ‘interesting dynamic,’ GM says
INDIANAPOLIS — It certainly wasn’t the first time Jim Harbaugh and his brother exchanged coaches, and it sounds like it may not be the last, either. With Michigan defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald back in Baltimore as the Ravens’ new defensive coordinator, the topic of recent coaching swaps between Jim and John Harbaugh came up Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “It’s an interesting dynamic with John and Jim,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta told reporters. “Same thing would hold true with the Michigan players, and also the coaches at Michigan,” DeCosta said. But the pipeline has grown in recent months, with the Ravens adding Michigan defensive analyst Ryan Osborn to its staff to help Macdonald.mlive.com
Jim Harbaugh praises new Michigan DC Jesse Minter as ‘seamless fit’
Jim Harbaugh didn’t have to go far to find his new defensive coordinator. Jesse Minter, a 38-year-old former coach for the Baltimore Ravens, has formally been introduced as Michigan’s next d-coordinator, Jim Harbaugh announced Wednesday evening. At the time, Michigan had named Ravens assistant Mike Macdonald its defensive coordinator, but Minter “came highly recommended by my brother John,” Jim Harbaugh said. “It is an honor to be joining coach Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan,” Minter said in a statement. Jim Harbaugh will return to Michigan in 2022
As it turns out, Jim Harbaugh will be staying at Michigan after all. The news comes on the same day Harbaugh, 58, was set to interview for the Vikings’ head-coaching vacancy in Minneapolis. Instead, Harbaugh will return to Ann Arbor in hopes of building off his most successful season at Michigan. Since arriving at Michigan, Harbaugh’s tenure has been a rollercoaster ride of victories (and plenty of them), disappointing results and lack of hardware. Instead, Harbaugh has elected to stay in the college ranks and build upon his accomplishments in the maize and blue.mlive.com

Late Thursday, the Ravens announced the 34-year-old Michigan assistant has been hired as their new defensive coordinator, with head coach John Harbaugh calling Macdonald “one of us.”“A Raven through and through,” Harbaugh said in comments to the Ravens’ team website. Jim Harbaugh could look internallyMichigan’s results, of course, were better than anyone could have predicted. It was presumed that Macdonald would one day return to the NFL, having spent seven years in the Ravens organization before. It was last July at Big Ten Media Days when Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Macdonald was next on brother John’s list to hire as a defensive coordinator in Baltimore. As for Michigan, expect Jim Harbaugh to consider internal candidates for the ever-important defensive coordinator role.mlive.com

But, Preston reports, “Keep an eye on Mich. d-coordinator Mike Macdonald and Ravens d-line coach Anthony Weaver as favorites for vacant DC position.”More: Michigan worried Jim Harbaugh might take Raiders job, report saysThe job became open on Friday after Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, the Michigan head coach’s older brother, dismissed long-time defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale. Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh on Ravens-Lions finish: ‘One for the ages’
ANN ARBOR – Like many in Michigan, Wolverines football coach Jim Harbaugh was tuned into Sunday’s Detroit Lions-Baltimore Ravens game at Ford Field. With his connection with John Harbaugh and adding two former Ravens assistants to his staff this offseason in Mike Macdonald and Matt Weiss, Jim Harbaugh said there are a lot of parallels between the two organizations. “Quite a bit, really,” Harbaugh said Sept. 20.mlive.com

Jameis Winston threw a 56-yard trick-play touchdown pass to Tre’Quan Smith on his first playoff action after 76 regular-season games over six seasons. Ravens' season ends with Jackson in locker room, 17-3 loss
The Ravens and Lamar Jackson were stymied for the much of Saturday night by a hustling, relentless Buffalo defense. Then, the biggest miscue on a night of missteps for the Ravens effectively put an end to an otherwise memorable season. In the end, however, the Ravens got blown away on a windy night by a team that chased Jackson all over the field. 1-ranked rushing game generated 150 yards, but Jackson was limited to 34 yards on nine carries with a long of 15 yards. Throwing under duress for much of the game, Jackson went 14 of 24 for 162 yards with an interception and three sacks.
Allen, Jackson set for playoff showdown as Bills host Ravens
FILE - Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) talks with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8) following a 24-17 Ravens win in an NFL football game in Orchard Park, N.Y., in this Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, file photo. It happened in the 2018 season opener, when the then-raw rookie Bills quarterback was shoved into the Ravens' sideline. Much like Jackson, Allen prefers putting the past behind him and focusing on the next challenge. “We’ve had our backs against the wall since the Pittsburgh game,” Harbaugh said. The Bills limited the Ravens to only 118 yards rushing in last year’s meeting, a 24-17 Ravens win.
Harbaugh, Ravens happily travel road to success in playoffs
Home-field advantage in the playoffs is overrated for Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who has found that the road to success in the postseason usually involves packing his bags and getting the heck out of Baltimore. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez, FIle)Home-field advantage in the playoffs is overrated for Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who has found that the road to success in the postseason usually involves packing his bags and getting the heck out of Baltimore. In fact, Harbaugh has a better road record in the playoffs (8-5) than at home (2-2). For Harbaugh and the Ravens, there's nothing like a good old road trip in January. Asked to explain his ascent to the top of the list of road wins for an NFL coach, Harbaugh came up empty.
Lamar winless no more, leads Ravens to 20-13 win over Titans

(AP Photo/Mark Zaleski)NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lamar Jackson finally has his first postseason victory — and on the road, no less. Combine that with Baltimore smothering 2,000-yard rusher Derrick Henry, and the Ravens look playoff tough. After the turnover, the Ravens came onto the field and started waving good-bye to the Titans — drawing a taunting penalty they didn't mind at all. “We won the division, hosted a home playoff game,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel said. The Ravens held Tennessee to minus-7 yards in the second quarter, the third fewest in any quarter of a playoff game since the 2000 season.

Last Lombardi: Super Bowl 43, 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Feb. 1, 2009, at Tampa, Florida. NFL's Sills: all proper procedures followed with Dez Bryant
The NFL's medical director says all procedures followed before the Baltimore Ravens' game Tuesday night when receiver Dez Bryant tested positive for COVID-19 were done properly and in the same manner as for every case. “I would say it was a very straightforward review simply because there were very few contacts identified by the data. In the meantime, the league told us we would not be allowed to bring a different player up if he tested positive, but if he tested positive, he wasn’t going to be allowed to play. "My understanding, they did all the contact tracing; all the procedures were followed as far as any other player was concerned. But then they came back out when we were on the field in pre-game warmups and said that he had tested positive.

Short-handed Ravens hope for negative COVID-19 tests & depth
(AP Photo/Gail Burton)The Baltimore Ravens are considerably short-handed at practice this week after moving two starting offensive linemen to injured reserve and placing eight players on the COVID-19 reserve list. Following Humphrey's diagnosis, the Ravens put starting linebackers Patrick Queen, Matthew Judon and L.J. Fort on COVID-19 reserve, along with starting safety DeShon Elliott and reserve linebackers Malik Harrison and Tyus Bowser. “It creates opportunities for a few younger guys and for some guys to play some different spots. “We know that any given week you could be down a key player or key players,” starting strong safety Chuck Clark said.

Chiefs Offense Forcing Teams To Make Unorthodox Decisions
We had a mindset that we were going to come in and try to score as many points as we could, Harbaugh said. They ran roughshod through Jacksonville in Week 1, allowing their starters to step off the gas in the fourth quarter. This offense is extremely difficult, said Lions coach Matt Patricia, whose team gets the next chance at stopping it Sunday in Detroit. Foolish teams have leaned on the old axiom of stopping the run first, and Mahomes has merely picked them apart downfield. So increasingly, teams have begun dropping more and more players in pass coverage while simultaneously blitzing, forcing Mahomes into making quick decisions and forcing the quarterback with possibly the strongest arm in the league into making shorter throws.detroit.cbslocal.com
