Perron then scored again for his ninth career hat trick and the Red Wings went on to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-4 at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings then issued an unsuccessful goalie interference challenging, leaving them shorthanded again. The Red Wings couldn’t have asked for a much better start, scoring three times on 10 shots to lead 3-0 at the first intermission.

DETROIT – Several young forwards are experiencing the rigors of the NHL, struggling for offense as the season winds down. It’s one of the reasons the Detroit Red Wings are having difficulty scoring. The Red Wings overcame a rotten start, battling back from a two-goal first period deficit to send the game to overtime. The Red Wings on Wednesday dealt defenseman Filip Hronek to Vancouver for first- and second-round picks. The Red Wings killed a holding penalty on Gustav Lindstrom in the final five minutes of regulation to keep the game tied. The Red Wings had a much better second period, outscoring the Kraken 2-1 to tie it at 4-4. The loose defense that plagued the Red Wings in Ottawa carried over into the first period Thursday as Seattle scored three times.

Having more capable forwards than lineup spots is a nice luxury for a Detroit Red Wings team decimated by injuries much of the season. Coach Derek Lalonde said before the game that Filip Zadina, scratched in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory in Washington, is back in the lineup. “Really wanted to get Zadina back in because he played well previous to the scratch the other day,” Lalonde said. “Obviously, very happy with Berggren’s game,” Lalonde said. Expect to get him back in Saturday.”The Red Wings might have Raymond back when they host Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Dylan Larkin scored twice and the Detroit Red Wings extended their win streak with a 6-1 victory over the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.

This was a total team effort as 12 Red Wings recorded at least one point. Leading 3-1, the Red Wings broke it open with three goals in a span of 7:12 within the first eight minutes of the third period. The Red Wings outscored the Canucks 11-3 in the past two games. He opened the scoring at 10:58 by slipping a backhand shot past Delia during a breakaway. Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said before the game that they remain day-to-day and he’s hopeful at least one of them will be available on Wednesday.

DETROIT – Dylan Larkin entered the interview room with Jonatan Berggren following the Detroit Red Wings’ 5-2 victory Saturday over Vancouver and revealed his new nickname for the rookie. “It’s good hockey sense,” Larkin said. “You watch a lot of the goals he’s scored this year; it’s finding soft spots on the ice where he’s not covered, and he’s got good hands around the net. He’s been fairly consistent, going no longer than four games without a point and registering a point in 19 games. “I’m feeling pretty good that I haven’t had so much downs in my games,” Berggren said.

Seven different Red Wings scored goals and Moritz Seider collected four assists, tying the franchise single-game record for a defenseman. The Jets battled back to cut the Red Wings’ lead to one goal three times before Lucas Raymond scored into an empty net with 1:20 remaining. The Jets were dominating the second period and threatening to tie it before a pair of penalties gave the Red Wings a five-on-three advantage.

Aaron Ekblad scored a pair of goals and Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves as the Panthers defeated the Red Wings 3-2 at Little Caesars Arena. Rookie Jonatan Berggren and Robby Fabbri scored for the Red Wings. They are 18-2-0 in their past 20 meetings with the Red Wings. Jack Quinn scored the only goal in a shootout, Dylan Cozens had the second two-goal game of his career and the Buffalo Sabres held off the Detroit Red Wings 5-4.

For a while there, it looked like that would be the highlight of a disastrous night for the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings went 0 for 7 on the power play, including a five-on-three for 1:27 in the final three minutes of regulation. They are 2-0 against the Red Wings this season. Trailing 4-1 and looking down and out, the Red Wings perked up big-time in the third. The Red Wings had ample opportunities to win it on the power play but couldn’t convert.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ryan Strome scored on a pass from Trevor Zegras with 49 seconds left in overtime and the Anaheim Ducks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. “In every aspect of our game, I just thought we were solid,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. His goal was just the fifth all season on the power play for the Ducks, who have the worst man-advantage numbers in the league. DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings hung tough with the New York Rangers for more than two periods Thursday before being doomed by a disastrous three-minute stretch. The Rangers scored four goals in a span of 2:57 in the third period to snap a tie and went on to blow out the Red Wings 8-2 at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings (7-4-3) had their four-game points streak snapped at 3-0-1. Joe Veleno and Lucas Raymond scored for the Red Wings. Raymond put the Red Wings ahead 2-1 at 7:33 of the second, blasting in a one-timer off a feed from Larkin.

The Detroit Red Wings today recalled forwards Jonatan Berggren and Givani Smith from the Grand Rapids Griffins. Berggren, 22, last season led the Griffins with 60 points (including 20 goals), setting the franchise’s rookie scoring record. Smith, who cleared waivers before the start of the season, appeared in two games with the Red Wings during his first stint with the club from Oct. 29-Nov. 1. The rookie defenseman has been much improved in the preseason, earning praise from the Detroit Red Wings coach. “I’ve liked him through the whole camp,” Lalonde said following Monday’s 3-2 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena. A couple of those plays were maybe turnovers earlier in camp and now I think he’s executing some of those plays. DETROIT – Jonatan Berggren hopes to use the preseason to show the Detroit Red Wings that he is NHL-ready. Coach Derek Lalonde said Berggren had a good training camp. Detroit Red Wings defense prospect Jared McIsaac took a significant step in his development this past season in Grand Rapids following two injury-plagued years. Surgery on both shoulders limited McIsaac to 28 games during his final junior season and 10 games in 2020-21, his first pro season with the Griffins. “For him to play a full season under hard circumstances in the American League, he learned to grind it out a little bit,” Griffins coach Ben Simon said. “He’s playing substantial minutes for our club -- power play, PK, end of game situations, game’s on the line situations. I think he’s leaving here with a positive attitude and knows what he has to do to be more successful next year.

Or maybe the Detroit Red Wings can fill that need from within the organization. Many of the Detroit Red Wings’ top prospects will have an opportunity next week to compete against their counterparts on other teams prior to training camp. Sweden has been a valuable resource for the Detroit Red Wings during the coronavirus pandemic. So, while hockey is on hiatus in North America, more than a dozen Red Wings prospects are playing and developing in Sweden. “He looks very comfortable, his minutes are steadily going up, he’s playing in all situations. “He’s playing more this year; it’s a difficult league to get production in. “He’s playing in the top six, power play, getting offensive minutes,” Horcoff said.

Jonatan Berggren has been overshadowed by the two players the Detroit Red Wings selected ahead of him in the 2018 draft, set back by major injuries in each of the past two seasons. Berggren is off to a hot start for Skelleftea in the Swedish Hockey League, the country’s highest division. “He’s off to a great start and it’s a good sign for us,” Shawn Horcoff, Red Wings director of player development, said.
