Kurt Cobain’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ guitar sells for $4.5M
The blue 1969 Fender Mustang that Nirvana singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain played in that grunge-band’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music-video went for $4,550,000, during an auction in New York, according to Julien’s Auctions. In addition to the ’90s-defining “Teen Spirit” clip, Cobain played the guitar during recording sessions for Nirvana’s 1991 “Nevermind” and 1993 “In Utero” albums. “This guitar is big, and it relates so much to stigma,” Irsay told the Indy Star. Rolling Stone reports the winning bid for Cobain’s former guitar Sunday was from Jim Irsay Foundation, which means Irsay will retain ownership of the instrument. Nirvana baby’s child porn lawsuit dismissed
A judge has dismissed a child porn lawsuit filed by Spencer Elden, best known as the “Nirvana baby.” Elden appeared naked on the cover of Nirvana’s 1991 album “Nevermind” and sued the band, including Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and the estate of Kurt Cobain (his widow Courtney Love is the executor), 30 years later. Elden claimed the image was taken without his consent and said the nudity amounts to an image of child abuse. Variety reports the defendants responded in court last month, saying Elden “spent three decades profiting from his celebrity as the self-anointed ‘Nirvana Baby’” and that the suit was time-barred.mlive.com

The man who was photographed naked with his genitals exposed in a swimming pool as an infant has sued the band Nirvana, saying the use of the photo on the “Nevermind” album cover constitutes child pornography. According to NBC News, the attorney for Spencer Elden filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. Non-sexualized nude photos of infants are generally not considered child pornography under law.”Elden is now 30 years old. “However, in most of the interviews accompanying these photo shoots, he expressed deeply mixed feelings about being famous for the ‘Nevermind’ cover and whether he was exploited by it. BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Two guitars owned, played and partly designed by the late Eddie Van Halen will be going up for auction. Both guitars were hand-striped by Van Halen in the familiar style of most of his guitars dating back to the first Van Halen album in 1978. Each of the guitars is expected to fetch between $60,000 and $80,000. The guitar legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer died of cancer on Oct. 6 at age 65. “As we were preparing for our annual ‘Icons & Idols: Rock and Roll’ auction lineup, we were stunned to hear the sad news of Eddie Van Halen’s passing last week,” Julien’s Auction’s president Darren Julien said in a statement.

Cobain wore the cardigan during Nirvana's 1993 concert on MTV Unplugged in New York. Cobain's custom Fender Mustang, built in Japan because Fender's Custom Shop wasn't equipped to build a left-handed version, is included as well. It's the first time the archive has been opened in more than 50 years, according to the auction company.

SEATTLE - For just $7.5 million, you can own a piece of rock 'n' roll history. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love bought the Seattle house in January 1994. The current owners acquired the house from US Bank in 2000, according to the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms with a detached garage and retaining wall that were added in 1999, according to property records. There aren't any interior shots of the home available for the public to view, but the property listing describes it as a "perfectly maintained home of extraordinary presence."
