Michigan and Michigan State both have a finalist for the same national award. Michigan State receiver Jayden Reed and Michigan running back Blake Corum were named among five finalists on Wednesday for the Paul Hornung Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s most versatile player. Ball State receiver Justin Hall, Houston cornerback Marcus Jones and Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams are the other finalists. This is the 12th year of the Hornung Award and Michigan has one past winner in Jabrill Peppers in 2016. Michigan State fifth-year senior tight end Connor Heyward was a finalist in 2018.

Body camera videos released Tuesday show a 21-year-old Black man moving inside a parked car moments before police shot and killed him outside a McDonald's restaurant in Maryland. At a media briefing, Montgomery County police Chief Marcus Jones narrated a 28-minute-long compilation of bodycam video excerpts and a recorded phone call between police and the driver, Ryan LeRoux, before the July 16 shooting in Gaithersburg. Branches or “cliques” of MS-13, one of the largest street gangs in the United States, operate throughout Maryland, including in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, Maryland. At all times during the conspiracy, members of MS-13 were expected to protect the name, reputation, and status of the gang from rival gang members and other persons. Pursuant to this plan and as directed by Alvarado-Requeno, Contreras-Avalos and other MS-13 members and associates allegedly stabbed the two victims to death. The next day, Jacome and other members and associates of MS-13 allegedly returned to Germantown to bury the victim’s body.

Genealogy websites and a cheek swab enabled U.S. Marshals to arrest a man suspected of being the Potomac River Rapist, who terrorized the nations capital in the 1990s. News outlets report 60-year-old Giles Daniel Warrick is now awaiting extradition from Horry County, South Carolina. Warrick had moved to South Carolina after working as a landscaper in Maryland. Police said detectives questioned him and obtained a cheek swab with his DNA to provide the match to crime scene evidence.
