Larkin delivered a gloved punch to Joseph’s face in retaliation of the Lightning forward’s check from behind that sent the Detroit forward into the boards moments before. Larkin received a match penalty at 11:40 of the second period of the Red Wings’ 7-6 overtime loss in their season-opener at Little Caesars Arena. Larkin will miss Saturday’s game against Vancouver at LCA (7 p.m., Bally Sports Detroit), a contest he might have missed anyway due to an unspecified injury caused by Joseph’s hit. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Larkin will forfeit $30,500.00.
