4-year-old boy dies after kayak overturns in Lake Lansing
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI -- A 4-year-old boy has died and a 33-year-old woman is being treated at Sparrow Hospital after the two were pulled from Lake Lansing Tuesday morning. Police say the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital after crews recovered the duo, who are believed to have been in a kayak that overturned. Crews were able to rescue the duo, but the boy was unresponsive after being pulled from the water. Officials in Meridian Township, which is located just east of Lansing, concluded the 11th year of its deer management program earlier this year. The archery program helps control deer populations in the area and involves a volunteer archery program and deer cull conducted and managed by the Meridian Township Police Department. An annual firearm deer cull was approved in December 2020. “We are pleased with the results of the deer cull and the efforts of the Police Department,” said Police Chief Ken Plaga.

Daniel James Bath, 19, of Haslett, died Feb. 27, when he crashed into a tree along Jolly Road near Ambassador Drive, according to the Meridian Township Police Department. Police were called to the area of Jolly Road near Ambassador Drive just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a single-car crash, police said.
