MICHIGAN REDISTRICTING

Michigan’s redistricting commission has overwhelmingly voted to advance proposed congressional and state Senate maps to the final stage of the process, approving lines that would be fairer to Democrats than those drawn by Republican lawmakers in the last two decades.

Lawmakers from both parties are asking Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to investigate after a meeting of the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission held a closed session.

The citizens commission tasked with redrawing Michigan’s political maps received an email death threat on Wednesday (Oct. 27). The death threats did not target a specific individual.

An independent commission is drawing out Michigan’s new political maps, but time is running out to get the job done.
