Yu Darvish starts for the Central champion Cubs, and rookie right-hander Sixto Sรกnchez get the ball for upstart Miami. โ€œItโ€™s going to be great.โ€Darvish is making his first playoff appearance since signing with Chicago before the 2018 season.

Marlins shut down Mets 4-0

It was the Mets first game since a player and a coach tested positive for the coronavirus. The Marlins scored all their runs against Rick Porcello (1-4) with a pair of two-out rallies. The Mets didnt pitch deGrom Tuesday because he didnt get his usual between starts mound work in until Monday. Marlins: Elieser Hernandez (1-0, 2.29 ERA) is looking to win back-to-back starts for the first time as a big leaguer.

Cincinnati had home games against Pittsburgh postponed Saturday and Sunday after a player tested positive. Cincinnati is the third team to have games postponed because one of its players tested positive for COVID-19, joining the Marlins and the Cardinals. Chapman tested positive for the coronavirus during preseason workouts and hasnt pitched yet this season. AILINGBlue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is on the injured list, interrupting his big-hitting season.

Virus-stricken Marlins resume season with 18 new players

MIAMI Scrambling for replacements following a coronavirus outbreak, the Miami Marlins added a Moran, a Morin, two pitchers named Josh Smith and a former Olympic medalist in speedskating. The Marlins' revamped pitching staff includes right-hander Mike Morin and left-hander Brian Moran, and right-hander Josh A. Smith and left-hander Josh D. Smith, all recently acquired veterans. Replacements included seven newly acquired players, and 11 players from the team's alternate training site. The virus infected 21 members of the Marlins' traveling party and forced the suspension of their season July 26 after just three games. We expect to win games, Hill said.

Hit or error? MLB official scorers work remotely thru virus

Baseball is back, but because of the coronavirus, official scorers this season will rule remotely on hits and errors and other plays. MLB is limiting the number of people at the ballpark, including in the press box, and decided official scorers could make their calls without seeing the game in person. Probably a touch unfair to the official scorer, which could end up affecting the players, Francona said. "Its tough enough to be an official scorer when youre sitting up high. You never know until you try it.So the scorers will render their rulings from the study or porch or kitchen table, the decision then debated by countless would-be official scorers also watching while safe at home.
