Morris played high school basketball at Beecher – he was Michigan’s Mr. Basketball in 2013 – while Kuzma spent one year playing at Bentley before transferring to a prep school. Former Beecher star Keyon Menifield signs to play college basketball at Washington
FLINT – Keyon Menifield will be heading west to play college basketball. Menifield, the Division 3 Player of the Year who led Beecher to the state basketball championship, announced on Twitter that he has signed to attend the University of Washington next year. Despite playing four seasons on the varsity for Beecher, Menifield received just two college offers – from Eastern Michigan and Cleveland State – before deciding in June to reclassify and enroll at The Skills Factory in Georgia. The 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 26 points, 9.3 assists, 6.6 steals and 4.7 rebounds as a senior at Beecher. Monte Morris has big game off bench as Nuggets take 3-2 series lead over Portland
Former Flint Beecher star Monte Morris came off the bench Tuesday night to help the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers in double overtime and take a 3-2 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series. Morris, the 2013 Mr. Basketball in Michigan, scored 28 points and handed out five assists in 41 minutes during Denver’s 147-140 victory. The Nuggets can win the series Thursday when it returns to Portland for Game 6. Morris made 7 of 18 shots from the field that included 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Recruiting update for All-State guards Keyon Menifield, Carmelo Harris of Beecher
MORRIS TWP., MI – Could Keyon Menifield and Carmelo Harris ended up playing college basketball together after leading Beecher to the Division 3 state basketball championship? It’s a possibility since Toledo has shown interest in both of the Bucs’ All-State guards. Since winning the state title, Menifield said he’s also received interested from Louisville, Boston College and Toledo and that list is likely to grow this summer. Menifield, a senior, led Beecher with 37 points against Iron Mountain as the Bucs finished the season with a 16-1 record. Former Flint Carman-Ainsworth basketball star Jayden Nunn commits to Iowa State
FLINT – The Flint-Iowa State basketball connection is alive and well. Point guard Jayden Nunn, who began his high school basketball career at Flint Carman-Ainsworth, announced in a video on Twitter that he’ll play for Iowa State next season. In August, he transferred to Dream City Christian in Arizona for his senior year. In nine games with Dream City, Nunn is averaging 18.7 points while shooting 62.5 percent from the field, 43.8 on 3-point attempts and 82.8 from the free throw line. Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma set to embark on most important season of young NBA career
FLINT – The 2020-21 season could be the most important of Kyle Kuzma’s young career. Kuzma was tight-lipped about his situation this week during a conference call with a couple of Flint-area reporters. But his numbers slipped last season after the Lakers traded for Anthony Davis. That’s not exactly what Kuzma envisioned entering perhaps the most important year of his career. Monte Morris of Flint Beecher agrees to $27-million contract extension with Nuggets
FLINT – Monte Morris is being rewarded after playing two full seasons with the Denver Nuggets. The point guard from Flint Beecher has agreed with the Nuggets on a three-year contract extension that will pay him $9 million annually, EPSN.com is reporting. Morris spent the entire 2018-19 season with the Nuggets, appearing in all 82 regular-season games and averaging a career-high 10.4 points and 3.6 assists. Nuggets do it again, taking Clippers to Game 7 in West
The never-say-die Nuggets pulled off another season-saving comeback — and, after rallying from 19 points down with 22 minutes remaining, they’ll see the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7 on Tuesday night for a berth in the Western Conference finals. Nikola Jokic had 34 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists, and the Nuggets topped the Clippers 111-98 on Sunday to even their West semifinal series at three games apiece.
