Mattawan’s proposed wastewater treatment facility draws backlash from community members
MATTAWAN, MI — The Mattawan Village Council has faced backlash from community members over a proposal to create a wastewater treatment facility. Mattawan Village Council President Don Cole said the matter is on a pause until the council can review its feasibility study. The process, Woodhams said, could take two or three months until an updates feasibility study could jumpstart conversations again. Discussions about building a wastewater treatment facility began years ago when it was discovered that the force main pipeline carrying wastewater from Mattawan would need significant repairs. As of a Jan. 12 status report issued by the village council, the village was still investigating the feasibility of the proposal.
