Free COVID-19 testing site opens at Kalamazoo County Expo Center
KALAMAZOO, MI — Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Humans Services, (MDHHS) and the Centers for Disease Control, (CDC) has opened a COVID-19 PCR testing location in Kalamazoo County. Curbside, self-administered testing will be available at no out-of-pocket cost and results will be delivered electronically within 2 to 3 days. The site is located at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, 2900 Lake St., Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Appointments are available on weekdays, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., the health department said. Kalamazoo County had 51,141 confirmed cases as of Monday, Feb. 14.

Like the other COVID-19 tests offered at Ford Airport’s testing site, travelers and residents must pay to be tested. The cost of the new, rapid PCR test is $275 per person. Travelers can still also get the rapid antigen test for $75, the regular PCR test for $125 and both tests for $160.

The last time Michigan State athletics reported zero positive results among players and staff members was on Aug. 17. Michigan State athletics reports two new positive COVID-19 results
Michigan State athletics began a new year as it finished the last one, with low positive COVID-19 test results. The university on Friday afternoon announced two new positive results among 105 athletes given PCR tests between Dec. 30 and Jan. 6. It is the fourth straight round of testing data released in which the Spartans announced two positive results for athletes. Michigan State doesn’t disclose the sport played by those who test positive and PCR testing covers all sports. Of the at least 2,948 tests on athletes, there have been 180 positive results and 14 positive results have been received from the more than 602 tests on staff members.

Maryland is five days away from its scheduled game against Michigan State but that contest remains in doubt because of a COVID-19 outbreak for the Terrapins. Maryland announced it won’t practice on Monday while daily antigen and PCR testing continues for players, coaches and staff members. “A decision about Saturday’s home game against Michigan State will be determined in consultation with University medical staff,” the Maryland athletic department wrote in a press release on Monday. Maryland (2-1) is the second Big Ten team to shut down this season due to positive COVID-19 tests, following Wisconsin. Following a loss to Indiana on Saturday, Michigan State (1-3) coach Mel Tucker was optimistic his team would make the trip to Maryland.

Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz tests positive for COVID-19 but could be back for Michigan game
Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz’s next game after his stellar debut could be against Michigan. After having a COVID-19 antigen test come back positive on Saturday, Mertz received a positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on Tuesday to confirm, according CBS Sports. Wisconsin might have to start fourth-string quarterback Danny Vanden Boom in Saturday’s game at Nebraska after third-stringer Chase Wolf also tested positive, according to reports. However, Wolf’s positive test has not yet been confirmed. If a team’s positivity rate -- the number of positive tests divided by total number of tests administered -- based on a seven-day rolling average exceeds five percent, it would not be allowed to play.
