2023 NFL combine: Detroit Lions’ needs at receiver depends on DJ Chark’s fate
This is the second of an eight-part series previewing the Detroit Lions’ interests heading into the 2023 NFL combine, which kicks off next week. But it’s worth exploring if the Lions and DJ Chark don’t agree to terms on a new contract this offseason. mlive.comConditions on retractable field an issue for Michigan, TCU in Fiesta Bowl
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The field at State Farm Stadium, where Michigan lost to TCU in Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl, is remarkable. It allows for, among other things, the natural grass surface to be used in the indoor stadium. Michigan’s first game of the season on natural grass didn’t go particularly well. The natural grass (Tifway 419, a dense Bermuda grass hybrid) is contained in a single 40-inch deep tray measuring 234-feet wide and 403-feet long. The Wolverines practiced at a baseball field in Tempe, Arizona, this past week in order to prepare for the natural grass surface.

Michigan comes unglued early, loses track meet to TCU in Fiesta Bowl
GLENDALE, Ariz. — A season defined by unity, physicality and near-perfection came crumbling down for the Michigan football team on Saturday. A defense that prided itself on its bend-but-don’t-break philosophy yielded big play after big play, while Michigan’s offense committed a series of errors early that dug itself a deep hole. It was all downhill from there, with the Mullings fumble proving to be a critical loss of points and giving TCU new life. In the lead up to Saturday’s game, Michigan players spoke of a “business-trip” mindset after losing a lopsided game to Georgia, 34-11, in last year’s CFP semifinal. And while they wound up making this a game, too many mistakes and big plays from TCU proved to be their downfall.

He’s big and long. All around, he’s a good receiver. Each of them has the ability to pop a big play at any time, but Clinkscale is still emphasizing physicality with his defensive backs. “I think in certain games, we’ve given up one early on and then we shut it down the rest of the game,” Clinkscale said of limiting big plays. “Max does a good job with his timing and throwing the deep ball and making big plays,” Clinkscale said.
