Rocco Grimaldi scores four as Red Wings whipped by Nashville
The Detroit Red Wings’ recent offensive struggles were overshadowed Thursday by a plethora of defensive mistakes during a disastrous first period -- and a huge night from Rocco Grimaldi. The Nashville Predators scored four goals in rapid-fire fashion barely eight minutes into the game, three of them by Grimaldi, and went on to defeat Detroit 7-1 at Bridgestone Arena. The Red Wings (10-20-4) have lost three in a row, allowing a season-high seven goals for the third time this season. It cut Nashville’s lead to 4-1 and gave the Red Wings a bit of momentum and some hope that they could get back into the game in the second period. After Calvin Pickard replaced Greiss, Grimaldi capped the hat trick at 8:08, converting a pass from Erik Haula on a three-on-two break.
