5-star QB Caleb Williams to enter transfer portal, but staying at Oklahoma ‘an option’
One of the nation’s top college football players has entered the transfer portal. Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced Monday that he is entering the transfer portal but is leaving the door open for a return to OU. “I think we all come to college to find our own path and prepare for the future,” Williams wrote on Twitter. And Shane Beamer, who was instrumental in recruiting Williams to Norman, has since left to become the head coach at South Carolina. For the season, Williams completed 64.5% of his passes for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Something special awaits the winner of the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl. North Carolina’s Mack Brown and South Carolina’s Shane Beamer have agreed to the “honor” instead of receiving the traditional Gatorade bath if their team wins the game on Thursday. By doing so, the winning coach will get $10,000 donated to their favorite charity. Bowl officials said the mayonnaise dump on the winning head coach will be after the trophy ceremony. It will feature 4.5 gallons of slightly watered down Duke’s mayonnaise.

Oklahoma hasn’t made the official, on-field jump to the SEC, but ex-Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler has. 1 high school QB recruit in the 2019 class, announced his plans to transfer to South Carolina on Monday. Rattler, a 6-1 pro-style QB from Phoenix, committed to Oklahoma with much fanfare in 2019. South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer was an assistant at Oklahoma from 2018 to 2020. South Carolina will take on North Carolina (6-6) in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30.
