Demolition crews began tearing down the long-vacant Southwest Detroit Hospital on Friday, marking the first step toward construction of Detroit City Football Club’s new 15,000-seat stadium.

The Detroit City Council approved the Detroit City Football Club’s 15,000-seat and 421-space parking deck with a 76-unit apartment building of affordable housing at the site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital in Southwest Detroit.

Following the move to Corktown, Detroit will be one of the very few cities that has MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL and United Soccer League teams playing in stadiums within its city boundaries.
