When a tractor trailer struck the rear of a bus last month carrying more than 20 people in Virginia, the passenger compartment of the bus was destroyed and several passengers were ejected, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report Tuesday. Three of the 23 bus passengers died from their injuries and the remaining passengers and survived with varying injuries along with both drivers, authorities said. Advertised as a “party bus," the bus featured limousine-style bench seating around its perimeter and was carrying the passengers eastbound on Interstate 64 near Williamsburg when the accident occurred early on Dec. 16, according to the preliminary NTSB report.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – One person is dead after a three-car crash in Northern Michigan. According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office the crash occurred on M-72 at Cook Road in Williamsburg around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. 9&10 News reported there was one fatality, but no other details were immediately available. The westbound lanes on M-72 were shut down for more than four hours while crews worked to clear the scene, according to deputies.

WILLIAMSBURG, MI -- Michigan State Police say a 34-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by an SUV Monday night in front of the Shorelane Motel on US-31 N. Witnesses say the victim -- identified as Shawna Marie Perault of Kalkaska County -- was seen running through traffic before she was hit. Perault was pronounced dead at the scene. The 58-year-old driver of the SUV was not at fault according to police. Police were called to the scene around 8:24 p.m. and US-31 was partially closed for three hours as a result of the crash. WILLIAMSBURG, MICH. -- Northern Michigan’s hops industry is beginning to rebound after the global pandemic caused sales to drop earlier this year, the Associated Press reports. During the first months of COVID-19, Michigan hops sales had dropped between 30% and 50% in tandem with craft beer industry shutdowns. But Michigan hops producers are now saying that July and August saw sales pick back up, according to the AP. The Michigan Hop Alliance grows 13 varieties of hops on 30 acres, plus another five varieties from 50 or 60 acres on other farms. Mike Moran, sales director and vice president at MI Local Hops in Williamsburg, finished up the hops harvest on 180 acres in the past week.

SoftBank is in very advanced talks to take control of embattled work space company WeWork, according to people familiar with the matter. SoftBank, led by Japanese billionaire Masayoshi Son, plans to spend somewhere between $4 billion and $5 billion on new funding and existing shares, sources say. After the move, Softbank would then have as much as 70% or more control of WeWork. SoftBank hopes the large cash infusion will increase the speed with which WeWork can become free cash flow positive and profitable, sources said. SoftBank exec Marcelo Claure will be involved in the company's management, likely as chairman, sources said.

Brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) is seeking to raise up to $9.8 billion from a Hong Kong listing of its Asia-Pacific business, marking what would be the world's largest initial public offering this year. The deal will raise between $8.3 billion and $9.8 billion for heavily indebted AB InBev before any over-allocation option is included, giving Budweiser Asia a market capitalization of up to $63.7 billion after the IPO. Even at the low end of the price range, the IPO will be the biggest globally this year, outstripping the $8.1 billion raised in New York by Uber, data from Refinitiv shows. AB InBev has previously said an IPO of its Asia business could help create a brewing champion for the region, where wealthy consumers are increasingly trading up to higher-margin premium beers, such as Budweiser or Corona. A spokeswoman for AB InBev declined to comment.
