Soup City 2026: Detroit Edition, is the organization’s annual signature event, returning Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, to the historic Roostertail. This year’s Detroit Edition theme celebrates local culture, cuisine and creativity while raising critical funds to support families experiencing homelessness and working toward stability. The event will feature an array of soups, small plates and desserts prepared by local restaurants. Guests will also enjoy live performances by Detroit musicians. A centerpiece of Soup City is the “Art of Family” gallery, a photography exhibit highlighting the resilience and aspirations of families served by COTS. The exhibit challenges common perceptions of poverty and homelessness while offering an intimate look at the partnerships and support systems that help families move forward.

Diabetes Prevention Program- FREE class

Small changes can make a big difference in your health and helping you to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. Corewell Health's Diabetes Prevention Program is led by trained lifestyle coaches who will give you skills you need to make lasting, healthy lifestyle changes. Through this yearlong program, you will focus on healthy eating, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress and staying motivated as you work toward your weight loss and physical activity goals. After the initial 16 weekly sessions, you will meet bi-weekly, and then monthly for added support to help maintain your progress. Class is held Sundays at 1:30pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Detroit.

This year’s Tea and Treasures brings Detroit Opera’s acclaimed Resident Artists back to The War Memorial for a program celebrating A Toast to America at 250—a musical journey through the scenes, songs, and stories that have shaped the nation’s artistic identity as the country prepares to mark its 250th anniversary. Audiences will enjoy selections spanning the openhearted lyricism of Carlisle Floyd and Aaron Copland to the bold theatrical brilliance of Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, and André Previn. Guests will be treated to a lavish buffet of sweet and savory offerings and a curated selection of fine teas, paired with a program that illuminates the voices, dreams, and histories that continue to define American storytelling. Performers include Brianna J. Robinson, Mia Mandineau, Travis Leon Williams, and Cole Bellamy, accompanied by Nathalie Doucet, Detroit Opera’s Head of Music and Director of the Resident Artist Program. Together, they create an afternoon of exceptional music and thoughtful reflection—an experience designed for longtime opera lovers and those discovering the repertoire for the first time. When the lights shimmer and the music fills the room… the Sweetheart Soirée begins! Calling all 6th–8th graders to the ballroom of the War Memorial, overlooking Lake St. Clair, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 6:30–8:30pm for an unforgettable evening of music, friends, and festive fun. Students are encouraged to dress to impress in their favorite Valentine-inspired looks, whether that means classic chic, playful pinks, bold reds, or a touch of sparkle. Style awards will be given for standout outfits, so bring your confidence, your creativity, and your best dance-floor energy! Each ticket includes a voucher for one slice of Jet’s Pizza (pepperoni, cheese, and gluten-free available). Additional slices, chips, and cookies will be available at the snack bar for $2 each. Both cash and credit are accepted. A complimentary water station will keep dancers hydrated throughout the night. Want to join the fun as a chaperone? Your child will receive a free ticket to the dance! Email ce@warmemorial.org if you’d like to volunteer. Registrations MUST be purchased by the parent or the legal guardian for any student attending. SALES END AT 12:00PM ON THE DAY OF EACH DANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS. Students are required to have their school ID on their person in order to attend the dance.
