Detroit Free Press Marathon: Traffic, road and bridge closures for Sunday's race

DETROIT – Expect congestion and traffic Sunday in and around downtown before, during and after the Detroit Free Press Marathon.

Street closures will begin at 4 a.m. 

In addition to streets along the race route being closed, the Lodge Freeway will be closed at the I-75 interchange beginning about 4 a.m.

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will close from 6:45-10 a.m., while the Ambassador Bridge will have restricted traffic from 5:45-9 a.m.

Also, the Belle Isle Bridge will be closed 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Race attendees are urged to arrive early and park outside the race course perimeter. Reserve parking spots here

The People Mover will have extended hours beginning at 5 a.m. Sunday. Race attendees are encouraged to ride the People Mover. Rides are 75 cents.

The closest stops to the start and finish lines are the Fort-Cass Station and Cobo Center.

A tunnel bus service will also be available. The bus will depart from the Windsor bus terminal at 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Riders will be dropped off at Cobo Center.

Return trips from Cobo Center are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Riders will need appropriate travel documentation for crossing international borders.
