A look inside Detroit's empowering, welcoming LGBTQ+ ballroom scene

In Detroit's LGBTQ+ ballroom scene, people come together for larger-than-life events, where they compete for trophies and prizes at balls. But this social scene is far more than just fun: Participants at these balls put a lot of work into their costumes and performances in hopes of encouraging other Black and Brown LGBTQ+ people to dream big and live free.
