Norman “Turkey” Stearnes played for the Detroit Stars in 11 of his 18 professional seasons in the Negro Leagues. From 1923 to 1931, he was a one-man wrecking crew, hitting for power, average, and stealing bases with a gallop that some thought resembled … a turkey.
