Detroit reaches 8,000 demolitions milestone in fight against blight

Detroit has reached a significant milestone by demolishing 8,000 blighted homes as part of a plan initiated in 2020, easing concerns for residents over abandoned properties. Mayor Mike Duggan highlighted that the city's land bank, which once owned 47,000 abandoned houses, will see that number reduced to about 1,000 by year's end, with none requiring demolition. The city is working to empower renters to become homeowners and curb speculative buying. While this demolition achievement is noteworthy, efforts to rejuvenate Detroit's neighborhoods continue.
