Youth group transforms overgrown lots into pocket park on Detroit’s east side

A group of young residents on Detroit's East Side, commissioned by the Denby Neighborhood Alliance, is transforming neglected lots on the 14,000 block of Flanders into a vibrant pocket park. The project, part of the Grow Detroit Youth Talent Program, involves community members of all ages who have been working since June to create a space with walking paths, a horseshoe pit, raised garden beds, and benches. Spearheaded by mentors, this initiative is not just a summer job but a lesson in life, service, and community pride, with the aim to complete the park by the end of the month.
